FAQ

01What food-safety requirements apply to the box, insert, inks and glue for chocolate?

Chocolate is food, and the rules for materials that touch it depend on the materials used and the market you sell into. Typically food-grade board, suitable inks and adhesives are chosen, and the chocolate sits in a food-safe inner wrap or tray. Tell us your destination market and we will confirm suitable materials and the documents you need.

02How do you prevent chocolates being crushed, broken or melting, and how is the box divided inside?

Inside the box, trays or dividers give each piece its own compartment so the chocolates do not knock or press against each other, and a sufficiently rigid outer carton protects the whole pack. A box cannot stop chocolate melting on its own, so in warm weather insulation needs to be planned separately.

03What can be done in summer or on long journeys?

Chocolate starts to soften at around 22°C (72°F). For summer or long journeys we suggest insulated outer packaging and cold packs that do not touch the chocolate directly, plus a faster shipping method or a cooler season for dispatch. On the box side we work with you on the insert and the outer carton.

04How should I choose the structure for single pieces, assortments and seasonal gift boxes?

A single piece can sit in a small tray. Assortments use a divided insert. Seasonal gift boxes are often drawer or rigid boxes with a ribbon. The choice depends on the number and size of the pieces.

05When are greaseproof paper, liners and cellophane used?

Greaseproof paper stops fat soaking into the box and leaving marks. Liners and cellophane keep each piece separate and protect its surface, and cellophane can also let the product show through.

06Can chocolate boxes be recyclable or FSC-certified?

Our paper boxes are made from virgin pulp and can use FSC-certified materials, and the inks are eco-friendly. Inserts can be moulded paper pulp instead of plastic trays, and pull tabs and tamper-evident seals can also be made of paper. Premium brands often set strict environmental requirements, and we can provide the relevant test reports.

07How can the box protect against damp and still look good?

Keep the chocolate in a moisture-resistant inner wrap, such as an inner bag or greaseproof paper, and close the outer box well. The outside can still use attractive finishes such as matt, so it protects and looks good.

08What food-contact rules apply when exporting chocolate packaging to the EU?

Materials that touch food must meet the food-contact rules of the market you sell in. Tell us the destination market and your importer's requirements, and we will choose suitable materials and help with the documents needed.

09Are foil and embossing suitable for food boxes, and could they shed particles?

Foil and embossing are normally on the outside surface and do not touch the chocolate. Where needed, the decorated surface is kept away from the food and an inner liner or wrapper is added.

10What are the MOQ, sampling time and lead time? Can I start with a small trial batch?

The minimum order quantity is 1,000 pieces. Sampling takes 3–5 days and production usually takes 15–20 days. If you are just starting out and want to test the market with a small batch, we can support that.
